And the Superbowl Stage is set!
Posted on January 25, 2010
Twenty-four hours later, the two teams have been decided and will face each other in two weeks at the Superbowl in Miami. Each team had a tough opponent in front of them and forgive me, but they both deserve it.
Starting with the first game of the day, the Indianapolis Colts taking on the New York Jets. First off, simply amazing performance by the Jets on this one. With nothing to lose, they gave it their all and had the lead going into the second half. Unfortunately for Sanchez and co. their opponent featured non-other than Peyton Manning on the opposing team, who simply is just too good at dismantling an entire team.
I felt that as long as the Colts kept the game close, the second half would be theirs for the pickings and they showed that to be true. Before fully engulfing myself with this, let’s take a recap at my crazy predictions and see how close I was on each.
Peyton will amass 300+ passing yards. – Correct!
Peyton will amass 3 touchdowns. – Correct!
Peyton will throw one interception. – Wrong (Not that it’s a bad thing
)
Indianapolis Colts will amass more than one hundred yards rushing. – Correct! (101 rushing yards on the day, wow
)
New York Jets will be held to 110 rushing yards and under 200 passing yards. – Correct on the rushing yards with 86 on the day, however they managed to grab 300+ passing on the day.
Mark will only amass one touchdown. – Wrong!
Mark will throw two interceptions, one that will lead to a touchdown. – Wrong!
One team will return a kick-off or a punt return for a touchdown. – Wrong!
Well, three for nine overall, haha. Could have been worse I suppose. Let’s just say that Sanchez did one hell of a job running his offense yesterday and really stuck it to Manning and the Colts. Braylon Edwards 80-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez was simply astounding and really opened up their offense for the rest of the half.
Unfortunately, when you play against Manning, he understands the game and after reading their defense, found their holes and put it to work in the second half, scoring 17 points overall. Just watching this game alone, it seems as if Peyton is poised to hoist the trophy in two weeks!
Moving to the Minnesota Vikings game against the New Orleans Saints. The number one question around the league will certainly pertain as to whether Brett Favre will return in Purple next season (My humble guess would be no.).
The old man gave it his all, even taking a bunch of solid hits along the way and coming back to the offense. But I cannot agree with the call to throw a pass on third down with under twenty seconds left. All you had to do was run it once more, try for some more yards, send out the kicking unit and you’re on your way to the Superbowl. Plain and simple. We will never know of course now, but I truly feel that was how it would have ended.
Onto the game, simply wow. An opening touchdown drive for both teams, which seemingly continued with a, Oh you scored a touchdown? Here is our touchdown. And repeat. Minnesota held that advantage at the end of the first.
With Favre seemingly unable to put points on the board in the second half, the game continued falling into Brees and co’s hands as the game progressed. Several key turnovers certainly did no favours for Favre and it seemingly looked over when he took a huge hit late in the game and was assisted off the field. The old man would have nothing of it and returned, just seconds from another Superbowl appearance until everyone saw what was going to happen the second he threw that ball.
After which I certainly knew that the Saints were going to the big game. A huge factor on the Saints part was the 475 yards of offense the Saints defense let up, while Minnesota held the Saints to just 265 offensive yards.
Either way however, I still stand by Manning and the Colts and will see them take the Saints apart in two weeks time. As for this game, let’s recap my crazy predictions and see how I did, as well as overall.
Favre will throw three picks. – Wrong! (Had two on the day though, damn.).
Favre will amass 250+ passing yards. – Correct!
Favre will amass three touchdowns. – Wrong!
Adrian Peterson will break out for over one hundred rushing yards and two touchdowns. – Correct!
New Orleans Saints will only amass 200 total offensive yards. – Wrong!
Drew will amass three touchdown passes, with only two staying. – Wrong! (Even though he did get three, I said only two would stay.).
Drew will throw one interception. – Wrong!
Two for seven with five over sixteen on the day. Haha, that is what happens under crazy predictions I suppose. Great games all around and I will say that the Saints will need to bring their big guns, if they want to take down Manning at the Superbowl.
