United States defeats Canada in the Gold medal game
Posted on January 6, 2010
Tonight saw the end of the five-year Gold medal streak that Canada has accumulated at the World Juniors, as the team fell 6-5 in overtime.
Both teams showed tonight why they deserved to be on the main stage as the first period saw four goals before first intermission. The second period was no different as we saw a twelve minute penalty killing by Canada and a 3-3 ending to head to the fourth.
The first ten minutes were tough to watch as Canada just seemed all over the place, and allowed two goals in. With ten minutes remaining and their shot at keeping their streak alive ending, Jordan Eberle proved he was a clutch man and brought two goals for Canada, tying the game.
Heading to overtime, USA brought the puck all over Canada and eventually found the hole that led to the 6-5 loss for Canada and a second medal for the United States. Congratulations and we’ll see you next year!
